Use Musicboxmelodies from your AI assistant

AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or VS Code can connect to Musicboxmelodies through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). Once connected, your assistant can look up music box tunes and help you write melodies that really play on your music box.

Server address

To save tunes in your Musicboxmelodies account, add this address. Your assistant will ask you to sign in once when you connect it:

https://api.musicboxmelodies.com/mcp/account

To try it without an account, use this one instead. Your assistant can still save tunes and give you a link to keep them:

https://api.musicboxmelodies.com/mcp

How to connect

  • Claude: add a custom connector in your connector settings, paste the address and sign in to Musicboxmelodies when asked.
  • ChatGPT: create a custom connector (app) with the address above; depending on your plan this may require developer mode.
  • Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code and other clients: add it to the client's MCP configuration, for example:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "musicboxmelodies": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://api.musicboxmelodies.com/mcp/account"
    }
  }
}

What your assistant can do

  • list_music_boxes: The music box types (15, 20, 30 notes and freestyle) with their exact playable notes and rules.
  • search_songs: Search the public catalog of community music box tunes by name, artist or box type.
  • get_song: Get the notes of a tune, ready to study, adapt or play.
  • validate_melody: Check a melody against a music box: notes the box cannot play, notes repeated too quickly, duration and strip length.
  • fit_melody_to_box: Transpose and adjust any melody so it plays on a chosen music box, explaining every change.
  • import_midi: Turn a MIDI file into a melody your assistant can fit and save.
  • create_song: Save the melody as a private song. Without an account you get a link to keep it; signed in, it goes straight to your account.
  • add_version: Add or replace the version of a song for another box.
  • list_my_songs: Your songs, including private ones (needs sign-in).
  • export_song: A MIDI file or a printable strip PDF to cut and punch (needs sign-in).
  • set_song_visibility: Publish a song or make it private again. Your assistant asks you before publishing.
  • list_products: Our custom melody, custom strip and PRO account offers with prices.

The server also offers a guide on composing for music boxes, so the assistant knows the playable notes and why the same note can't repeat too quickly on a real comb.

Your account

Your assistant can compose and save tunes without an account: it gives you a link to keep each song in your account (valid for 30 days). To save straight to your account, list your songs or export printable strips, connect the account address above and sign in to Musicboxmelodies. You choose what it can do, and it never sees your password, orders or payment details.

  • Songs are always saved as private. Your assistant asks you before making one public.
  • Up to 5 songs a day can be saved without an account, and 15 a day with one.

Things to try

  • "Write a short lullaby for my 15-note music box and save it to my account."
  • "Find a music box version of a Beatles song for a 30-note box and give me a printable strip."
  • "Here is a MIDI file: adapt it to a 20-note Muro Box and tell me what you had to change."
